Our Story

Nearly 50 Years of Protecting Something Truly Special.  Since Incorporation of the Greater Molega Lake Lot Owners Association, the GMLLOA has been dedicated to protecting, maintaining, and enhancing one of Atlantic Canada’s most remarkable recreational communities.

What began in 1977 as a vision for lakeside living has grown into the largest recreational land development in Atlantic Canada... a breathtaking 3,000-acre community known as Lakeland Retreats, nestled among the pristine waters of Molega Lake, Ponhook Lake, Beaverdam Lake, Annis Lake, Hidden Lake, Beavertail Lake, and Black Rattle Lake.

Originally representing approximately 1,300 lots in the LaBelle and New Elm areas of Queens County, the Association today proudly serves approximately 1,235 properties, with owners from across Canada, the United States, and Europe... all drawn to the natural beauty, adventure, and peaceful lifestyle that Molega offers.

In 1977, the Association was entrusted with ownership and stewardship of the roads and green spaces throughout Lakeland Retreats, a responsibility we continue to honor today.

Today, our community includes:

• 1,235 privately owned properties
• 621 developed lots and 614 vacant parcels
• Over 52 kilometers of maintained private roads
• 10 boat launches connecting residents to some of Nova Scotia’s most sought-after lakes
• 5 public beaches for swimming, relaxing, and making lifelong memories
• A vibrant international community of property owners who share a passion for protecting this extraordinary place

Nearly five decades later, our mission remains unchanged... to preserve the wild beauty, strong sense of community, and unforgettable lake lifestyle that make Molega unlike anywhere else.

All fees go towards our roads, infrastructure and services to the benefit of the lot owners on our roads.

The purpose of this Cottager’s Code for the Greater Molega Lake Lot Owners Association is not to dictate how people should live, but to encourage a shared respect for the values that make our lakes so special

Our forests are precious. Help us keep them and each other safe by following provincial burning guidelines and restrictions.
